Dorathea Lange

Dorothea Lange (1895-1965) is best known for her raw, graphic, but still beautiful photography that documented the struggle of people rattled and uprooted by WWII.  These images greatly focus on various ethnic groups and workers.  She was even hired by the the War Relocation Authority, to capture photos of the movement of Japanese-Americans after president Roosevelt ordered them to be moved into camps.  This was just weeks after the disaster of Pearl harbor occurred.  In these armed facilities, Lange was able to capture many photos like this.  Sadly, the government restricted some of her photos in which the world may will never see.
However this was not her only photography documentary.  Lange had also captured many photos of the lifestyle and conditions of farm life out West during the Great Depression.  The government also assigned her on this.  But one thing is for sure, Dorothea has an amazing talent in which she is able to capture raw emotion while composing structure and beauty.  The truth in her images is so unmistakable and present that it could almost take you back in time...

All in all, Dorothea Lange was a very gifted photographer who used a camera to speak volumes about different events.  Her images are packed with emotion and will leave a mark on history forever.

  1. Sometimes we forget about Lange's work at the Japanese internment camps because we want to forget that this ever happened. It was shameful. Thank you for posting that image as a reminder.
