The BIG Project Artist - Steve Winter

For the BIG project artist I decided that I would go for something with a splash of color, and a subject that I love.  So after looking through what seemed like hundreds of artists, Steve Winter seemed to be the perfect fit for me.

Growing up, Steve Winter learned a great love of photography from his father and eventually graduated from the Academy of Art and the University of San Francisco.  Right away, Black Star Photo Agency singed him on as one of their photographers and since then has taken images for Stern, GEO, Time, Newsweek, Fortune, Natural History, Audubon, Business Week, and Scientific America.  However, currently he is working for National Geographic as he has for about two decades!  Steve Winter's work is extremely raw and truthful in the eyes of nature, and his composition is very advanced.  Not to mention his images have exquisite colors that complement and contrast each other.  Recently though, tigers have been his main focus instead of his prior subjects that include snow leopards, jaguars, bears, and other beautiful creatures.  Winter was even named BBC's wildlife photographer of the year in 2008 as well as got the first prize for Nature Story from World Press Photos in 2009.  Most recently, he won the 69th Pictures of the Year International’s Global Vision Award for his story on tigers, and the 2013 Wildlife Photojournalist Award from BBC’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition.

So upon the theme of tigers that Winter has recently tried, I plan on taking some photos of my own 'tiger', leo, as well as other animals that can be found locally.
Wish me luck!

The BIG Project

Seeing all of these books was very eye opening to me and it really changed my point of view on the limits of photography.  It was really interesting to see how others see the world.

Michael Carroll

As I watched the Michael Carroll documentary this week, I realized what a powerful thing photography can be and also how lucky I am to have the things that I possess and have.  Not only was I shocked by the terrible conditions of the Romanian children that Carroll was visiting, but I was also shocked that their leader was allowing them to continue to die from aids and other diseases.  Thankfully however, Michael Carroll's photography was able to shine light on this disaster and generate help for those children.  Through his photos alone people were moved to help, and are still moved today.  His organization website can be found here
link.
Sadly, the help that Carroll gave these children years ago is still not enough to end the problem completely.  There are still thousands of children at risks to get AIDS and many who have it.  But there is still a chance to stop this problem through Michael's organization and bringing attention to this horrific problem.
Hopefully someday thid terrible issue will end.

Thanks to Michael Carroll and the power of photography we are able to shine light on this problem in hopes to fix it.

Inspirational Photography
